hiding "Comments Off"

Trying to hide comments off. I've tried .nocomments { display: none; } and it doesn't work. I use a plugin "Disable Comments" and disabled this plugin thinking it was interferring and turned off commented individually on posts and the words still appeared. I also tried the plugin to hide this and it didn't work.
