Header text not showing up

When I originally set up my site, I specified that the header text not be displayed with the header image. But now I do want the header text to display. I went to the header options (under appearance), and checked the box at the bottom to that says "show header text with your image." I also made sure that the text I want to display is set as the site tag line and site title. Still, the text is not showing up above the header image. What am I doing wrong. My skill level is reasonably low, but this seems like it should be a no-brainer.
