Header-pic

Hi, I´d like to enlarge my header pic in the size of 840 px, so that it covers the total blog width. The problem is that the right side of the header is a kind of "locked", so the image can not be enlarged. Moreover i`d like to integrate the search-widget in the header in front of my picture.
