Header Image PC vs Tablet vs Smartphone

So I'm having trouble making my site look good on a smartphone, as i built it it looked great on the pc but I find the media button on the homepage covers to much of my header image, simple resizing is going to detract from my PC and tablet version of the website, is there a simple solution for a novice builder please
