Header Highlight Posts Not Displaying

Hey! Just picked up this theme today, loved the clean look and the header highlights as a central and image-centric way to feature new posts on my site. That said, any time I switch the option off of the demo mode, the entire bar disappears-- it will not display my test posts under post content (which would be ideal), nor under any of the other options. What am I doing wrong?
