Google authorship

Hello again :) I have one more question I would need help with: Today I updated my catch box and by doing this I lost the links of google authorship I had inserted into my header.php on the FTP server. I had copied them before the update being afraid something like that could happen and re-inserted them afterwards but I would like to find a solution how to avoid this procedure with future updates.
