Featured Slider shows Too Much Content

The text displayed on the featured slider is attempting to show the entire post. This used to display just the first 100 words or so of the post, but for some undetermined reason, no longer works that way. The caption box is now huge and shows too much text, images from the post and short codes used by plugins. Any suggestions on how to fix this? http://www.bighiking.org
