Featured Slider not working

Does the featured slider work in the free version? I have tried for some time to figure it out but I can't find any place to put the text or get the selected pages to show up in the slider. I have assigned featured images to each page but the when I switch from demo to featured page slider the slider just disappears. ...Stephen
