Excerpt/more tag setings

I assume this refers to the blog excerpts on the slider? Yes? I don't want excerpts from the posts to appear on the slider. I have been trying to set the Excerpt length to zero but it won't let me. It seems the minimum is 30 words. Can I change that? Also the hover on the slider says "permalink" I think is is suppose to say "read on" which is what I specified in the more Tag text box. Really I promise to stop pestering you soon.
