Custom Template results in body class appearing on page

I created a new template for the home page to have a custom header. It worked on my test page but when I applied it to the Welcome page, the <body> class appears at the top of the displayed page.
I tried to include the test on the page and the template source but your form won't let me.
Do you have any suggestions for me to fix this?
