Custom CSS Box

Hello, I have read a lot about creating a Child Theme for my page. I also have found the convenience of the "Custom CSS" box within the Appearance --> Theme Options Tab when wanting to make custom css adjustments. These adjustments also stayed in tact after updating the theme. My question is- Does this Custom CSS box act as the Child Theme/ override the need for a Child Theme? Or are there still benefits to having a Child Theme as well as utilizing the Custom CSS box? Thanks! Bryce
