Changing the skin?

Hi, I'd like to make a dark skin for the theme. Can I set it somewhere? I've been digging in the style.css, but  I'm  not a coder, so it is a challenge for me. I could find things already, but cannot find the lines that are for some text, eg: color of featured contents title. I'd also like to change the color of the text and textbox on the Featured Post Slider (or remove it). If anyone can help, please! Thanks!
