Changing Articles-layout / columns?

Hello again, how can i change the articles front-page so, that it shows maybe like the last 3-6 posts with small preview pics and a little bit of text from the article (for example 3 columns in 2 rows). At the moment the articles just fall on top of each other with full text and full width picture. Thanks!
