Change bg colour in header and add text to footer widgets

Hi I'm using the Catch Everest theme - thank you for your simple and professional design. As a WP design novice, could you help me please with a couple of questions? 1) How can I change the page content background (ie in the header and main columns; I want to keep the outer background image)? 2) How do I add text to the footer widgets as you have in the demo? At the moment my pages just show an image and (sub)title. Can I add a text widget to the footer widgets to allow me to add body copy? http://test.acewords.co.uk Thanks for any help you can give. :)
