Cannot install plugins

Hello, using Adventurous for the first time I am having trouble to install plugins. Always it says "Unpacking the package… Could not create directory....Return to Plugin Installer" Not even Word Press Importer or Facebook Like Box works, not to mention WP Google Map Plugin. What is the problem? Thans for quick help. Christiane
