An image in my media file just vanished

Hi there I am using the catch evolution theme. It has involved me bringing in alot of images. Is there going to be a limit to the amount of images the site can hold in the media file at one time? I had a background image set .. it was one of the first images i had put in and it vanished i wonder if this will happen if i reach a limit?
