Accessibility issues in Simple Catch Pro
Hello.
I have now been using Simple Catch Pro on one of my websites for some time. Generally I am very pleased with the theme, but I have noticed some theme behaviour and issues I would be very glad to see changed. :-)
I have a more or less complete Norwegian translation of the theme. I have also edited the search box text strings to fit my needs. However, "enter keyword" is not among the transaltable strings in the theme, and it looks a bit too silly to have this short string still in English while the rest of the page is all in Norwegian.
The menu items in the horizontal menu are all clickable when visiting one of the pages. The visited page should preferrably not be clickable, since the user is already there.
The heading (h1) is made as a link when the user is on a subpage. This seems a little strange.
Both logo and site name are links. This means two links instead of one, which looks a bit unnecessary and confusing.
The tagline has been coded as an h2. Why? The tagline has no use for a heading, which only would be confusing.
Both logo and name are coded as H1. The first heading of a page should be the first heading of the content, both from a SEO and accessibility point of view, and coded as h1.
The "skip-link" which brings the user to the start of the main content should preferrably be some of the very first the user meets when opening the page with a screen reader. Like it is now, a screen reader user will have to browse through logo, name, tagline and search box. Maybe the skip-link could be placed in a better way visually.
My website can be found at www.saf-org.no - which is the official website of a small Norwegian organization of visually-impaired academics.
Keep up the good work!
Best regards,
Tore Johnny Bråtveit
