How to add a read more button

I am helping with a site (www.rosscummings.com) and I wish to add a read more button. The result so far is the wordpress readmore doesn’t work, I seem I am unable to add javascript without it throwing “uncaught referenceerror function is not defined” and other plugins do not work either. So how do I do it?

@tagais : It looks like your site is on development mode and its not a live site. Can you please explain more clearly what you would like to be done ? Let me know if you have any more theme related issues.

What I mean by a read more is to have a short text followed by a button which when clicked on adds the rest of the text. I’ve done it in the past using javascript and the display properties (inline or none) of a div section. WordPress has its own tags for this purpose as well as plugin which do not work with this theme. I’ve found that entered Javascript seems to be unable to work with the theme. Is there an option to enter in a block of code? Does this make sense?

@tagais : You will need to create a child theme and customize the site as desired. You may add the JavaScript code with a help of a plugin or a child theme. Please let me know if you need further assistance regarding the issue.
