The featured image as it appears alongside a post on the home page is perfect. When the individual post is viewed, the featured image appears on TOP of the post, centered.

Is there a way to embed the featured image in the post — when viewed individually?

@nonno john: You can change that from “Appearance => Customize => Theme Options => Layout Options => Single Page/Post Image Layout”

I made the suggested change and the featured image now is just above the post title and aligned left …looks fine.
